Baptist Health East Region hospitals nationally recognized with an A Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Baptist Health Lexington. November 14, 2025

LEXINGTON, KY. (Nov. 13, 2025) Baptist Health Lexington and Baptist Health Richmond have earned the top rating of “A” for hospital safety for fall 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization.

The national distinction recognizes achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital. The two hospitals are part of the East Region of Baptist Health’s statewide family of hospitals.

“This recognition from The Leapfrog Group highlights the exceptional efforts of our physicians and staff to uphold the highest standards of patient safety and quality,” said Chris Roty, president of Baptist Health Lexington. “It reflects our continued promise to provide safe and compassionate care to our community.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade ratings program is based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Receiving our second consecutive “A” letter grade speaks volumes on the culture of safety we have at Baptist Health Richmond. It is a culture that is in pursuit of Zero Harm and 100% Trust,” said Greg D. Gerard, president of Baptist Health Richmond. “For us, the care we provide is very personal and because of that our commitment to excellence is evident in all we do. We realize that every day people are coming through our doors and turning over their most precious gift to us, their lives. Our patients’ safety is paramount in all we do.”
